Temple Street Night Market!

Temple street night market is what it sounds like... its a night market on temple street! Unlike most night markets that we've been to, this one is pretty big and crowded. The lanes are extremely narrow considering that people are trying to pass you like 3 cars taking a 2 lane road. Its fun, but can be a little nerve racking considering that these are the kind of situations that can get you pick=pocketed. Luckily, the only thing we lost was our money, in exchange for some fun and interesting knick knacks.

After walking a block, we realized that we were famished. So as we stared at difference restaurants, the little man in the red shirt and white pants walks up to us, ushers us to a table and immediately suggests we need 2 bottles of beer. The funny thing is, I think we were waiting for him to select his restaurant! Anyhow, he was quite a character. Just looking at his demeanor and physique, he looked like he had spent many years as a traditional Chinese actor. His facial expressions were quite poignant. Oops, I just realized we didn't even take pictures of the food! I'll do better next time...

On the other hand, you can see what they serve here by looking at the wallpaper/menu. We ordered Pretzel Style Pork, Fried Noodles, and Fried Rice. Oddly enough, we almost finished it all along with 2 tall bottles of Tsingtao beer.

Other outdoor restaurants in the night market. Almost like Paris!

For some of you that have been to the LA Fashion District, this is similar, except they have waaaaay more stuff here.

Check out all the living spaces up above... Too bad I didn't have any water balloons...

This guy had a different kind of stall than the others. His name is Tam, and Tam does Chinese Calligraphy. What is swell about this is that you pick what you want, on what type of scroll or frame, and he will do this in front of you. I think that's a little more interesting than buying something that has been mass produced in a factory. I asked him to do a scroll that says, 'Pimpin ain't easy'...

At the end of the market, there are other markets that trickle off the main street market. This particular one had rows of stalls with fortune tellers. This stereotypical old man with pointy fingernails and long wispy hair told us that Laura is stubborn and will live a long time. Who knew? (he said the same thing to me...) Lucky US!

I know its hard to see, but do try to make out what they are selling. Yes,that's right, they are 'sex toys'... I'm not sure that you could sanitize them enough. Sorry, I'll buy my stuff from the seedy stores in the USA with a brown paper bag that says, 'nothing to see here'...

Now I know how to write 'SEX' in Chinese. Now is that Cantonese or Mandarin? And how do you pronounce it?

And I thought the Pho places in the USA had a lot of NEON!!! I sure hope they had solar cells on the roof of the building to power that! Its hard to tell, but this radiates just like the eyes of the snake in the Jungle Book... I was stuck staring at this for a few minutes... pretty...
